We all are familiar with the nurses and physicians, and also understand that there nursing assistant to take the work load from the nurses. Similarly, there are physician assistants to take the medical work load from the physicians; however they do not take care of everything. Medical assistant jobs also require making phone calls in order to confirm appointments and sending reminders.

A medical office assistant also helps a patient to fill the insurance form. They prepare the patient for the treatments, explain the treatment procedures to the patients and help physicians while examining the patients. A medical assistant also maintains the patient's history, create a new file for the patients and also keep the records. They also deal with the accounts and bookkeeping. Nowadays you will hardly see a medical assistant jobless because countless medical assistant jobs are opened every day.

These assistants mostly perform multitasking by working on so many things at the same time on the clinical side. They check the blood pressure, pulse rate, respiratory systems, and body temperature. A medical assistant collects the specimens for laboratory. They also draw the blood from patients, and perform some simple laboratory tests as well. Medical office assistant also prepare patients for the x-ray rooms. They sterilize the medical instruments and also dispose the contaminated ones. In some cases they also instruct the patients about a diet plan. They also give brief summary to the physicians regarding the patient history.

If you want to become a Medical office assistant, you can join the courses offered by the vocational schools and community colleges. There are many medical assistant jobs available, so a number of people have started working in physician's offices and they learn from there; however they always need the theoretical knowledge besides practical experience. Taking the classes from the schools and colleges will make the certification easy for you. The course durations are 1 and 2 years respectively. One year education is for certificate or diploma and 2 years education is for an associate degree in Medical office assistants.

MA certifications are not mandatory for the job requirements. You will definitely get the job after completing your training. However for salary purposes and to work in big organizations with more career development, you will require the certification. There are two different types of certification with two governing bodies. The Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification exam is administrated by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) and The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam administrated by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA). Once you get the certification, you will be working as a CMA.
